Children's Mission in Cuernavaca

Sister Maggie with children in Cuernavaca that the Mission is helping to stay in school. Most children in the area quit school to go to work and help support the family at a very early age.

Baby Jorge and his older sisters wait on the street corner of a busy intersection while their parents sell crafts to passersby. After seeing Jorge sleeping in the cardboard box, the Mission collected enough donations to buy him a stroller.
When Sister Maggie first met them, they had put mattresses on the floor to accommodate the eight children and their parents. Later they fell upon hard times and had to sell the mattresses to buy food, which meant they all slept on the bare floor. The Sisters of Saint Francis Children's Mission collected enough in donations to purchase them a bunk bed.
